Obama\’s whirlwind first day: economy, war and more – Yahoo! News

The new White House press secretary, Robert Gibbs, said Obama\’s phone calls to leaders in the Middle East were meant to convey his \”commitment to active engagement in pursuit of Arab-Israeli peace from the beginning of his term.\” Gibbs also that in conversations with Israeli, Palestinian, Egyptian and Jordanian leaders, the president emphasized he would work to consolidate the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

I pray to God Almighty that President Barack Hussein Obama will be as neutral as possible and objectively fair in his Arab-Israeli diplomatic efforts, because too long has the support been one-sided. All I hope for is the end of years and years of senseless violence that achieves nothing more than the tragic loss of innocent lives and self-destructive destruction on both sides of the conflict. INSHA\’ALLAH GOD-WILLING PEACE WILL PREVAIL!!!

Yet… even as my soul screams those words, I know that it ain\’t going to be an easy journey ahead…. Years of built up anger, bitterness and frustration (not to mention, hatred) will certainly counterplay any progress that will be made. However, I have faith that it IS possible, that Arabs and Israelis CAN achieve a fair and balanced agreement, but if and only if both sides are willing to work for it, willing to make sacrifices in the name of peace/progress/national security/prosperity and for the sake of all their children caught in the middle of this costly warfare. God can will anything that\’s positive and good for humankind, but if we don\’t will it either, than it shall never be… Humankind, this is your opportunity to make good and make amends… 2009 baby, this is it: LET\’S MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
